La Liga: Chukwueze stars in epic Barcelona battle (2)

Villareal played the game of their lives last night against Barcelona in a bid to escape the drop but a five star showing, a goal and assist from chukwueze and a bunch of defense splitting passes from Cazorla was not enough to defeat Barcelona as Barca completed the second comeback of the game to rescue a point in the last five minutes of the game.

As expected, defending champions Barcelona started like a house on fire, neutralizing some early Villareal pressure and going two goals up in quick succession courtesy a Coutinho tap in off a Malcom pass and a Malcom header that left the keeper rooted to the spot.

Refusing to role over and die, Villareal stuck to their guns, finding pockets of space around the Barcelona midfield and defense to thread little passes, with Chukwueze and Cazorla particularly sensational. Their optimism will finally pay off in the 23rd minute as Chukwueze pulled one back for his side, getting on to a through pass, turning his marker and firing past Ter Stegen but meeting the upright. The ball returned kindly to him and he held his nerve to coolly slot the ball into the far corner amidst a see of falling Barcelona defenders.

Chukwueze then turned provider for Ekambi in the 5oth minute when he laid it on a platter for the striker to level matters  and pull the roof off the Estadio de la Ceramica. Villareal kept on the offensive and went two goals up, turning the tie on its head through beautiful strikes from Iborra and Bacca, making the fans believe that today was the day they finally get one over Barcelona in recent times.

4-2 at the 90th minute mark, up stepped the little magician Messi to add a final twist to proceedings. Messi scored a worldie free kick on the 90th minute mark, putting the yellow submarines on the defensive before Luiz Suarez fired home to level matters at the dead break Villareal hearts.

The team will however take consolation from this performance and hope to carry same into their other fixtures to avoid the drop.
