LA LIGA: Angel Rodriguez late goal sinks Samuel Chukwueze's submarines

Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal thought they had fought back from a losing position to draw Getafe in La Liga but it was not to be as Toko Ekambi blasted his stoppage time penalty into the stands to deny his side a share of the spoils.

It was a fiercely contested encounter, with both teams taking time to come to get up to speed with proceedings. First half was approached carefully and ended in a stalemate with clear cut chances few and far between.

Jorge Molina blasted Getafe ahead a few minutes after the restart before Villarreal leveled matters through a lucky own goal. The yellow submarines with the winds in their sails kept going at Getafe in search of the winner but were sucker punched as Angel Rodriguez was played through on goal and he lobbed the ball over the onrushing goal keeper to put Getafe back in front.

Villarreal thought they got a share of the spoils as  they were given a penalty for a foul on Ekambe at the dead but the attacker took charge of the spot kick only to play the ball over the bar with the keeper already beaten.

Villarreal will feel hard done by the loss but Getafe were deserved winners on the basis after 90 minutes.
