Enyimba edge Rangers in biggest Oriental Derby of the season. (2)

Enyimba football of Aba claimed bragging rights and bagged 3 points against Rangers in a match that was dubbed "The biggest match of the season" in Aba as they won 3-1 thanks to a double by Ifeanyi Anaemena who put in a man-of-the-match performance and a strike by Jean-Maria Guera.

The match started with at a frantic pace with Enyimba looking to assert their dominance early on but Rangers could have taken an unlikely lead when Godwin Aguda's ferocious shot narrowly missed the target inside 10 minutes.

That was the wake up call for Enyimba as they deservedly took the lead when Anaemena connected with Stanley Dimgba's cross to draw first blood in the 14th minute. It even got better for the home team four minutes later as they doubled their lead when Thomas Zenke did well down the flank and squared for an on rushing Guera to score off a deflection by Ousmane Pape. That was as good as it got for either side before the interval.

At resumption, Gbenga Ogunbote rang the changes in personnel and formation as he brought in Ifeanyi Egwim for Solomon Okpako, with Egwim playing a big part in their attempted fight back.. Four minutes after resumption Rangers pulled one back when substitute Egwim played in Chiamaka Madu who produced a beauty of a pass that Aguda connected with to beat Theophilus Afelokhai to offer them a route back into the game.

That set the tempo for the second half as chance after chance went begging for the visitors but Afelokhai stood his ground to deny first Seka Paschal and Pape from almost point blank range. Few minutes later, Rangers were made to pay as Anaemena profited from Rangers confusion from a set play to slot home his second and restore Enyimba's two goal cushion. End to end stuff it became from there on as the best chance after on, with Aguda responsible for the miss of the day, failing to hit the target from six yards with the goal at his mercy. Three goals to one it ended in favour of Enyimba.

For the People's Elephant, bragging rights secured, 3 points bagged and unbeaten run extended. For the Flying Antelopes however, it was another day of conceding 3 goals that according to Coach Ogunbote could have been avoided. Enyimba now trail Rangers with 3 points as the season enters it's business end.
