Team Nigeria at the ongoing All Africa Senior Badminton Championships in Port Harcourt began their title defence with a 5-0 smashing of South Africa in the mixed double event on Monday. 
The team made up of six players including Dorcas Adesokan and Anuoluwapo Opeyori  displayed their superiority over the South Africans.
In the other team event, Algeria were 5-0 better than Togo and Egypt also smashed Democratic Republic of Congo with a similar scoreline.
Mauritius beat Benin 5-0 as Ghana equally recorded a 5-0 win over Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Francis Orbih has assured Nigerians that the team will be worthy ambassadors to the country. 
Orbih stated this during the opening ceremony of the All Africa Senior Badminton Championships in Port Harcourt. 
"I want to thank the Rivers State government for accepting to host this championship," Orbih stated.
"Sports has always been a great tool towards human integration and development.
"I want to make it known to all that we are not just hosting for mere formalities but hosting to win," he said.
A total of 14 countries will be involved in the Championship and they are;

6. Côté D'Ivoire
7. Seychelles 
8. South Africa 
9. Zambia 
10. Zimbabwe 
11. Uganda
12. Togo
13. Benin and hosts, Nigeria.
