NPFL 19: Dogo happy with Rivers United draw

Head Coach of Sunshine Stars of Akure, Kabiru Dogo Dogo has expressed his satisfaction following his side's 1-1 draw with Rivers United in the Matchday 16 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday in Port Harcourt.

The first half of the encounter had little or nothing to show as both sides huffed and puffed as spectators watched with agony.

However it was a different showpiece in the second half as they both went for the kill with Dayo Ojo and Amah Chibundu of Sunshine Stars kept the defence of the hosts on their toes while Onyedikachi Bright thrilled fans with his aimless dribblings.

In the 69th minute, Ossy Martins scored from the spot to gift United the lead following a foul committed on Nelson Esor.

And minutes later, the hosts were reduced to 10 men as Onyedikachi was shown a straight red for an elbow on Fuad Ekelejuoti.

The Akure Landlords were gifted a late penalty following a foul committed by the United shot stopper, Akande Abiodun on substitute Ajibola Otegbeye which to many was a soft one but it was however given by the center referee and the striker stepped up to convert and dashed the hopes of the home fans.

Dogo after the game said they got well deserved point in Port Harcourt and praised his wards for their doggedness.

"I am really happy with today's result and the fighting spirit of my boys. Port Harcourt is like a home to us now, you all know that we won the preseason tournament here few months ago. Both sides gave a good account of themselves and the officiating was a fair one. Last week we lost in our home and Heaven didn't fall, that is how the game of football should always be and I'm happy with the outcome of this game," he added".

With the draw, the Owena Whales are now 7th in Group A with 20 points ahead of Rivers United who are currently 8th with same points on goal difference.
