Dream Team VII: Players exhibited character to overturn result - Nwakali

Nigeria U23 team midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali, says the character displayed by his teammates played a major role in their Monday 4-0 thrashing of Libya in the second leg game of the U23 African Championship qualifiers for the Olympics at the Stephen keshi stadium in Asaba.

Victor Osimhen netted a hat-trick and had an assist for substitute David Okereke's 4th goal to ensure the Imama Amapakabo tutored side advanced to the final stage of the qualifiers.

"The result today was out of playing as a team because the first leg was mainly an individual game,"Nwakali said.

"The team showed so much character that we've really trained together and that brought about the result we got over Libya.

"I must commend the coaching crew and my teammates for their committment,"he added.

The FC Porto B midfielder equally told tribalsports.net that he never doubted their ability to beat the Libyans in Asaba.

Nwakali struck the upright with a freekick in the 18th minute of the game. On the freekick, Nwakali speaking on the freekick noted that he was surprised but undisturbed when he struck the upright instead of the back of the net.

"I have a trademark when it comes to taking freekicks so i wasn't bothered when mine was stopped by the bar,"Nwakali continued.

"That shot alone motivated us the more and i knew that the goals will certainly come.

"We kept our focus and continued pushing until the first goal came,"he summed.

The team has advanced to the next stage of the qualifiers and will hope to do better in the first leg to avoid needing another heroic performance to proceed.
