Muller, Robben to miss Champions League Anfield showdown (2)

German international and Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller is set to miss the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg clash against English Premier League side Liverpool on Tuesday 19th February at the Anfield stadium.

Muller will be out of the encounter after bagging a second yellow card in a game against Ajax, ending in a 3-3 draw. Despite the appeal to UEFA he will be missing in action for their next two games. Also to be on the sidelines is Arjen Robben, who has been out of play since November 2018 due to a thigh injury.

Also in doubt to face Liverpool is goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer who is suffering from a right thumb injury.

With 24 goals to his credit this season, Robert Lewandowski, will be hoping to keep up his good works despite latest criticism from Didi Hamann describing the Polish forward as being individualistic, sluggish and overly theatrical on the pitch.

The Poland international was accused by former Bayern Munich and Liverpool midfielder as being the cause of their sitting third in the Bundesliga table, below, Dortmund and Borrusia Monchengladbach.

Premiership giants Liverpool will also be missing a key player in Virgil van Dijk who picked up three yellow cards in the group stage.

Both teams will meet for the first time on February 19 at the Anfield stadium in England before having a return trip on the 13yh of March at Allianz Arena.
