AFCON 2019: Eagles aiming to finish well against Tunisia

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that his wards are aiming to finish well in Egypt ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations third place match against Tunisia.

Nigeria will face the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo as they look forward to ending their quest in the 32nd edition of AFCON with a bronze medal.

Gernot Rohr who expressed his disappointment over the last game against Algeria disclosed to Journalists during a presser ahead of the third place clash that his players have to be positive to finish well when they go head to head with another North African side tomorrow.

“After the match against Algeria there was of course a big disappointment when you lose in the last second.

“It was a disappointment but we analysed together the match we saw the video with the players yesterday we saw also that it was a good match and the statistics were even better for us, we had 11 shots on goal they had six, we had a better possession of the ball also against probably the best team until now in the tournament.

“To loose in this condition is not a shame and they have to be positive we want to finish well together. It will be a different match because until now we played already 21 of our 23 players and it will be interesting to see other players too because it will be good for the solidarity of the group. We want to finish well after this little disappointment now,” says the German tactician.

In previous meetings of about 17 for both teams in all competitions, Tunisia claimed six wins and drawn six while Nigeria won only five. A win for the West Africans in this encounter will not only guarantee them a bronze medal but it will also close the gap and up their ranking as one of Africa’s best teams.
