CAF increases number of teams for AWCON to 12

The confederation for African Football(CAF) today at the CAF Executive meeting approved the increase of the number of participating teams at the African Women's Championship to twelve(12) from eight that was the former number.

The President of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad, made this known via his official twitter handle earlier today noting that the decision is a huge decision by the Executive committee.

"With @CAF_Online's #Exco, we took a great decision today: feminine #AFCON will now engage 12 teams! They were only 8 until now..."

This increase has been clamoured for in the past by female football enthusiasts in the continent who will no doubt view the decision as a positive step in bridging the quality gap between female football and that of their male counterparts.
